I've been developing & designing websites and content for websites (Content Marketing) since the beginning of the internet. As times change (and they constantly do), I learn, change and implement the best systems and methods that are applicable to the current web design trends & my clients. Over the past few years, Content Marketing (creating content for websites and Social Media) has become bigger and more important than the actual website itself. After all, why does anyone visit a website... to see how it's laid out or look at how pretty it is? People visit websites to view content. Relevant content, good content and fresh content.
Video, I have been directing, producing and sometimes shooting video productions for the web, Independent Movies and even TV Broadcast for close to two decades. Like the web, the video and photography industry changes fast as well! When I started out, although digital, most cameras used tape and recorded at a resolution of 720x480 pixels. Now-a-days we can record onto memory cards in 4K video that is recorded at 3840 x 2160 pixels! (see image to right or below if on mobile device)
Video Production is also a lot more complicated, technically and creatively, than most people realize. Location, talent, equipment, script, post-production... a lot of energy goes into a good production but the key, which many production companies seem to miss, is to make something people actually want to watch, not just a slick video that shows off how good their camera can take pictures. I've seen large businesses spend thousands, tens of thousands dollars on video productions that only tens or maybe a few hundred people watch. The only thing that matters in a video production is how well you can connect with your target audience. Fancy transitions, drone clips, cool looking movie looks and colors mean nothing if the video is "cold" and doesn't entertain it's audience.
Photography, I have been shooting professional photography for over a decade. I shoot Street/Lifestyle, Landscape, Portrait, Architecture, Corporate and Event photography mainly intended for online deployment in Social Media and website design . Whether it be images for a business's homepage or Social Media, visually stimulating images are key to what keeps people interested in a website. In many cases Stock Photography can be used but in most situations Stock Photography looks cold and really doesn't represent what or how the actual business looks.
I'm also a huge proponent of "Imagery over Design/Features". This means that I believe a clean, easy to understand and navigate website with nice images is much better than a website that slides things in, makes you click to find a menu, fades things here and spins things there... those things drive most people crazy. Think of the biggest sites in the world... Facebook, YouTube, Reddit... most everyone goes there to read a bit of text and then look at imagery.
