Basic "Google Adwords" Help

This guide is not intended to be an "all inclusive" guide for Google Adwords. TheDreamChest.com created this page to give a very "Basic Overview" of Google Adwords in order help busy clients understand the basic and most important aspects of Google Adwords ("High Concept").

Clients may opt for a "weekly" or "monthly" performance report of their Google Adwords marketing campaign. In general, "weekly" reports tend to get a bit tedious so we do suggest "monthly" reports. Reports will be sent to you in .pdf format. These reports will contain a "Table" with various rows and columns about "performance" of your campaign. Please have a report open and view it while referencing the "Term Explanations" below.

Term Explanations

  • Rows
    • One Row is 1 "keyword"
    • 1 "keyword" can actually be many "words" (i.e. a "phrase") - even though the "Marketing Jargon" is "Keyword" (i.e. meaning 1 word), a "Keyword" can actually be just 1 word OR many words (i.e. a phrase).
    • There are 3 Types of "Keywords"
      • General / "All Encompasing" - will show your Ad if that word is ANYWHERE in the search string.
      • Phrase Specific - (with Quotes around keyword) will show your Ad if the "Phrase" is ANYWHERE in the search string.
      • Only Specific - (with Brackets around keyword) will show your Ad if ONLY the EXACT word and or phrase is in the search string (nothing before or after).
  • Columns (only most important terms explained)
    • Keyword state - tells if the keyword is enabled or not.
    • Keyword - the actual "Keyword" (see above for further explanation).
    • Status - (most complicated factor) depending on a lot of factors (the price your willing to pay per click, competition, how good your website is, etc.), tells whether the keyword will actually show or not with the current settings. This can change on a daily or even hourly basis.
    • Clicks - how many times this Ad / Keyword has actually been clicked.
    • Impressions - how many times the Ad / Keyword as shown on a page (i.e. somebody searched for that keyword and the Ad actually showed up).
    • Cost - How much is cost you.
